Dr Patel utilizes liposuction both as an isolated treatment for areas of fat on the body which are resistant and stubborn to diet and exercise as well as an adjunctive procedure to other body contouring procedures like tummy tucks, arm or thigh lifts, with breast procedures as well as facial procedures. Liposuction is a versatile tool which when used for the correct indications will enhance many surgical contouring procedures. In the correct patient this body contouring treatment will enhance your shape and give you the confidence to wear better fitting clothing, more revealing clothing with the added benefit of causing skin to tighten.
Liposuction is a suction assisted procedure which removes fat from sites such as the “love handles”, tummy, thighs, calfs, ankles, arms, chin and back rolls to name a few. It is important to note that this is a minimally invasive procedure, meaning that the cannulas used to suction the fat, do get inserted in through incisions made in the skin.
Dr Patel also utilizes VASER liposuction. This innovative technology uses ultrasonic waves, effectively causing the fat particles to break up and therefore allowing for easier suctioning. This is particularly useful in areas where fat is difficult to break down (thighs, legs and neck). The ultrasound waves also cause the skin to retract by stimulation of dermal collagen. VASER liposuction can be used to sculpt areas more carefully achieving greater definition with less downtime and significantly less bruising.

Although the number of fat cells in our bodies is relatively fixed into adulthood, those cells that are present have the capacity to expand many times over their original size. Therefore, weight gain can definitely cause an increase in the size of an area that has been treated and also may consequently cause an increase in other areas previously not affected. A balanced lifestyle (good food and exercise) is recommended at all times.
You are monitored in the rooms for procedures done under local anaesthetic for about 2 hours. You will need someone to drive you home. In the case of a general anaesthetic a urinary catheter will be removed the morning after surgery and you will be encouraged to move. If you are stable you will be discharged once all dressings have been inspected. Shapewear garments are given to you to wear for the first 4-6 weeks, giving you more stability and a feeling of safety. Thereafter scar care is vital to ensure the best possible healing. Lumps and bumps that are felt early on will smooth out after some time and massage plays a very important part in getting this to happen sooner. Dr Patel may suggest further lymphatic drainage therapy to enhance the healing time of the areas treated.
